Drama: 54-281: Foundations of Drama II: Researching Shakespeare Productions: Cameo (Library Catalog)

Cameo Search Tips

Cameo (Carnegie Mellon University Libraries catalog)

  • Search Cameo to find all materials that the CMU Libraries own or to which the Libraries subscribe. You will find citations to books, journals**, media, audio, video and some full-text plays and streaming video (via Alexander Street Press).
  • When searching for information on productions use words such as production, stage, stage history, criticism etc. as part of your search
  • It is recommended that you use Advanced Search in most cases to get the best results. Try using only the Words and Phrases box first. Or you can try combinations of Words, Subject and/or author, but don't make the search complicated with too many keywords. Unlike the web, the library catalog has a very defined search syntax and structure.

Examples:

Shakespeare and Lear and stage

Midsummer and production

Shakespeare and Hamlet and history

  • Note that in most cases, Cameo will not give you access to the full-text or PDF of an article from a magazine or journal. To find citations or individual articles within journals or magazines, review the Articles and Reviews tab in this guide.

WorldCat

This is a huge database of library holdings all over the U.S. and internationally.  Use this library catalog in conjunction with Cameo to find more materials on your topic. If the Carnegie Mellon Libraries don't have what you need, you can check here and do an Interlibrary Loan request.

Google Books

You can search the full text of some of the books here, including scholarly publications. Use this in conjunction with Cameo and Worldcat for a through book search.
