Find out how the library can help with teaching and learning.

Vision: Why teach information literacy?

In support of Carnegie Mellon University’s vision, the libraries collaborate to enhance the capacity of our students to interact productively with others, consistent with our commitment to teamwork and leadership, specifically through the development of communication skills, writing, and information and media literacy.

Mission

The Libraries' instructional initiatives are guided by the Association of College & Research Libraries' Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.  Our initiatives exist to advance the knowledge, critical thinking, and ethical reasoning of students, faculty, and staff at Carnegie Mellon University and the community at large.

FOCUS AREAS:

  • Identifying learning needs through collaboration with campus faculty and staff.
  • Teaching users to search, locate, retrieve, evaluate, use, and value information.
  • Providing stand-alone and course-integrated instruction for individuals and groups using a variety of instructional methods and learning tools.
