Scope: This is a general introduction to resources for Gender, Media, and the Politics of Representation.  I also provided some specific resources for each of the sub-topics.  To access information on these sub-topics, select one from the pull-down menu on this tab.


Note:  This guide should be sufficient to get you started, however I always welcome feedback regarding resources that you run across and think should be included.


CATALOGS: CAMEO is the Carnegie Mellon online catalog. But don’t forget to check other library catalogs. Here are

some basic tips for searching library catalogs:

-- Whenever possible, use Advanced Search because it allows you to control how your topic is searched.

-- Use multiple terms and vary search fields. Here are some examples:

  • Try these subject searches:  Truth; Subjectivity; Culture and Truth
  • Truth (as Word or Phrase) and language (as subject)
  • assertion (as subject) and Power (as Word or Phrase)

-- View the full-record and note of the subject headings used in the catalog. Here are some examples:

  • Culture and Truth.
  • Power (philosophy).
  • Theory of knowledge.
