iPads available for checkout at the Library

CMU-Qatar students, faculty, and staff can borrow an iPad from the main Information Desk. We have older and newer models available. Inquire to library staff for current availability.

Policies

Who can check out iPads?  Any CMU-Qatar student, faculty or staff member - guests and other affiliated borrowers are not eligible.

What do I need to check one out?  You'll need your CMU-Qatar ID card.

Where can I get one?  At the main Information Desk in the library - see contact information and hours.

How long can I keep it?  The borrowing period is two weeks, and iPads can be renewed one time for an additional 7 days. Extensions may be available for special projects or applications; please inquire with library staff. An overdue iPad may result in your library privileges being suspended until the equipment is returned.

Where do I return it?  The iPad must be returned to the main Information Desk in the library.

What peripherals come with it? A case, carrying bag, charger and USB cable.

What am I responsible for?  You are responsible for any loss or damage to the iPad while it is checked out to you. If the device is lost, stolen, or damaged, or if peripherals are lost, stolen, or damaged, you will be billed for the item's replacement value.

What about apps?  Library-owned iPads come pre-loaded with selected apps such as Amazon Kindle. To download or purchase more apps, you'll need to sign in to the iTunes store and use your own account. After the iPad is returned, we will restore it to its original condition, and will not be able to retrieve any apps, media, data, and/or documents that you have downloaded.

Can the library staff help me download and install books or apps? Yes, when they involve access to library collections (such as eBooks, readers, database applications and so forth). Typically you will need to drop your device at the main Information Desk for processing. Please allow 2-3 hours for your request to be fulfilled.

 

IMPORTANT NOTICE

iPads are wiped clean and reset when you return them - be sure to store your data. Exercise 'digital diligence' and log out of all personal accounts before returning an iPad.

If you put a passcode on the iPad, disable it before returning the device.
