Access Services

A guide used to navigate Access Services' policies and procedures

About Us

Access Services develops and provides services that connect library users to library resources. Access Services is the primary point of contact for our library users. Our services include circulating library materials, ready reference (online and in person), processing physical and electronic material requests, managing patron accounts, course reserves, collection maintenance, opening and closing of the library as well as assisting in facilities issues.

Our Mission

The Access Services department at Carnegie Mellon University Libraries plays a vital role in supporting collections, spaces, and patron engagement. As the first point of contact for most users, we are committed to providing services that foster a culture of learning, discovery, and collaboration. We strive to create open and inclusive access to resources and information, actively engaging with emerging technologies in support of research, teaching, and learning across our communities.

Where we are located

Our locations include the Hunt Library, Roger Sorrells Engineering & Science Library, Mellon Institute Library, Offsite Storage, and the Video Collection. Offsite Storage is not open to visitors; however, patrons can request items from Offsite. The Video Collection is located on the second floor, inside the Hunt Library.
