Student Summer Hiring, Student Appreciation and Graduation
In April, both the Sorrells and Hunt Access Services teams started the process of reviewing applications for summer employment (specifically for our Circulation Assistants). Over 40 students submitted applications for the summer. Between our libraries, we will have 6 new students and 2 returning. To promote our hiring, we tabled at Human Resources' Student Job Fair on April 15th at the CUC. During that week, we also treated our current student employees to goodie bags in honor of Student Employee Appreciation Week. Students were able to pick out their a colored bag and fill it with nuts, gummies, coloring books, a pack of Crayons, and squishy toys [see below].
Access Services has 8 students graduating. Sorrells Circ Assistants: Akanksha, Violet, Lucy, Eesha, and Selena. Hunt Circ Students: Hannah and Sanaa. Andrew's Student Assistant- Kristen. We asked our graduating Circ Assistants if they had any memories or anything they wanted to share and here's what they had to say:
Eesha - "I have enjoyed the library shifts where I have been able to go out of my way to help people! For example, one morning before an exam, all the CMU printers were down, and students needed to print their study sheets, and luckily I could access our staff printer and help out a few students. I've even had to chase down a student who left his phone while returning an item and run all the way to Gates because he walked away too fast!"
Hannah - "Working at the circulation desk is one of my happiest memories at CMU. In the summer, the library felt sunny and meditative, and during the semester, chatting with different patrons and coworkers often brightened my day. I’ll really miss my kind supervisors and being part of such a supportive community!"
We will miss our seniors and congratulate them on their hard work!
