KiltHub is a comprehensive institutional repository, maintained by the University Libraries and hosted on the figshare platform, where Carnegie Mellon University researchers and their collaborators can share the scholarly outputs and research data produced in the course of their research. KiltHub curates, collects, preserves, and provides open access to this material as part of the Libraries' committment to open scholarship and collaboration.

What can I deposit in KiltHub?

KiltHub accepts a wide range of scholarly outputs, (including data, publications, conference materials, theses, etc.) in a variety of formats, from all fields, subjects, and disciplines at Carnegie Mellon University, as long as it meets the following conditions:

  • The work must be produced, submitted, or sponsored by a valid CMU faculty, staff member, or student
  • The work must be scholarly or research oriented
  • Contributions are intended to be a permanent part of the repository, and should be permissible for public access and reuse
  • The author/copyright holder must be willing and able to grant Carnegie Mellon University the nonexclusive right to preserve and distribute the work in perpetuity
  • The work follows the policies set by Carnegie Mellon University and the criteria and practices set by the University Libraries.

There may be other repositories that are more appropriate for specific disciplines and some formats that are out of scope or capabilities for KiltHub deposits. The Libraries KiltHub team may refer users to these repositories based on review of the submission and consultation with the researchers.

  • Research data on human or animal subjects or data that would be under the purview of the Office of Research Integrity and Compliance (ORIC) that has not been approved by the IRB and/or IACUC for public dissemination
  • Active datasets - KIltHub is not intended to be external storage for project data
  • Materials containing personally identifiable information that would prohibit public access
  • Administrative materials, unless they are used for research purposes and the University Libraries has given prior consent to their inclusion in the repository
  • Materials stemming from regular coursework, or personal research or creative content
